Internetdagarna, one of Sweden’s premier conferences on the impact of digital technology on society, placed a spotlight on AI this year. Umeå University, via DIGSUM, made a strong contribution to the discussions by hosting three seminars in collaboration with the Swedish Research Council and Internetstiftelsen.
The first session explored disinformation and generative AI, focusing on human rights, democracy, and freedom of expression. Simon Lindgren, Professor of Sociology and Director of DIGSUM, highlighted the importance of addressing AI from broader societal and political perspectives rather than solely technical ones. The second session tackled AI in the public sector, examining its implementation and future applications, while the final seminar addressed AI’s democratic implications, including automated decision-making and healthcare systems.
Umeå University was well represented across sessions, with Annakarin Nyberg, Associate Professor in Informatics, moderating the panels, and Felicia Lundstedt, a DIGSUM doctoral researcher, engaging the audience in the digital discussions.
