DIGSUM at Umeå University invite PhD students to take part in our PhD course in data science.
This autumn, DIGSUM offers another round of the doctoral course “Data Science in Social Media Research” (7.5 credits). The course is given on location at Umeå University, and PhD candidates at UmU will be prioritised when admitting students to the limited number of places. After taking this crash-course style module, the PhD student shall have a general understanding of a set of data science techniques and their implementation in analyses of social media data. Areas covered by the course are:
Introductory Python
Data Collection (APIs, web scraping)
Natural language processing (NLTK, spacy)
Sentiment analysis (vader, LIWC)
Network analysis (NetworkX, Gephi)
Word vectors (gensim, LDA, word2vec)
The course will be examined through a set of workshops and through the PhD student producing a set of functioning data science notebooks using the Jupyter platform and the Python programming language. Indicate your interest in taking the course by emailing digsum@digsum.net.
